Win A $100 Oberon Gift Certificate – Update
Isn’t this gorgeous? It’s one of Oberon’s new covers for the Kindle 3.
I’m giving away a $100 gift certificate to Oberon Designs. The lucky winner can chose from among Kindle covers, checkbook covers, and all kinds of other sweet loot.
Why am I doing this?
Originally, I wanted to have a few more reviews for Space Junque at Amazon. Like the silly newbie I am, I thought it would be a win-win — you get an action-packed romance chock-full of mutants, eco-terrorists and a hunky shuttle pilot — and a very good chance of winning a $100 gift certificate to spend how you like at Oberon.
But… I didn’t realize how close this was to “paying” for reviews. NOT GOOD! Yikes.
So I’ve figured out a better way to do this. The contest will still only run the next two weeks, ending October 2.
I’ll post the rules between now and tomorrow.

Yer Doing It Wrong!
I thought, hey! Those Oberon covers are so pretty. Everybody likes them. Why not do a giveaway of an Oberon gift certificate.
I would love to have a few more reviews at Amazon — I know; the gift certificate can go to a random reviewer. Fun!
But over at the Kindleboards, it’s been made clear to me that there could be a downside.
I do want to do a giveaway. I think I need to figure away to do it untied to reviews. I’m open to suggestions…
The Spinning Wheel Cafe
I’m reading from Space Junque today at The Spinning Wheel Cafe over at Amazon. It’s one of the threads that doesn’t chew up authors for breakfast and spit them out for lunch!
The Great Smashwords Mystery
Before Space Junque came out, I put up the first two chapters at Smashwords. It was great fun watching the downloads. When the entire book went up, I set the sample at 50 percent and unpublished the first two chapters.
Here is the mystery: People are still downloading the Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 files. WTF? Why? How?
Why fight Mother Nature? I revised the files and added links to the entire novella at the end, then republished them with proper labeling. Yesterday there were 8 more downloads of Chapter 1. Today, 4 already.
Huh? Half the book is free in the sample. I don’t get it…
E-Finds Reviews Smashwords Titles
Yesterday I received a request for a review copy of Space Junque from a website called E-Finds: Books, Music, Video & Other On-Line Finds. They’ve decided to do the good work of plowing through the myriad books available at Smashwords.
So far, the E-Finds reviews appear honest, intelligent and not fluffy. A welcome addition to our little community.
Space Junque – Live!
How Many More Miles?
Nearing the end. I want to throw up so bad I can’t stand it.
I mean throw it up. Throw the damn book up on Amazon so it will be THERE.
So close. Now it has nothing to do with the story and everything to do with the damn book. I just want it done and up there and over with.
And it’s a novella!
Don’t get me wrong, I love this story. And don’t yell at me for the comma splice. It’s fun. It’s just so much fun. It’s got everything — heroine, hero, villain, ghosts, goddesses, shapeshifters, space ships, magic sunglasses.
Exclamation marks!
I mean, hey, why wouldn’t I want to just keep writing this thing 4Evah?
Because I want people to read it now. Will you think it’s funny where I tried to tell jokes? Will you cry in the places I cried when I wrote it? (there are a few). Will you believe in the world?
Oh, I just can’t WAIT to find out that someone read Space Junque and loved it. Or hated it, even! ha. Read me, Seymour!
But not yet. Just a few more miles to go before I sleep…
Espresso Postapocalypto?
I suspect there will be espresso after the apocalypse.
I’ve been searching for the perfect an acceptable espresso machine that makes a good latte and won’t break down three months after I buy it.
Today, I surrendered to the pod. The Nespresso Citiz machine is expensive at +/- $350, but far less than a superautomatic whatever. I’m looking forward to the ease of use and cleanup. The guy at Sur la Table made me a latte at the store, and it was DELICIOUS!
I wonder about the pods. Will report back when I’ve had some time with it. I’m REALLY looking forward to making my own lattes in the morning and not having to go out.
Modern life…
Tingly Bits
It’s a thrill to know someone is enjoying a story I created.
Space Junque is getting oh-so-close. I know, I know. I keep promising. But “these things must be done delicately.” Professional editing. Copyediting. You know.
When 30 more people download Chapter One — free at Smashwords — I will put up Chapter Three.
Space Junque reborn
How do you like my covergasmic new cover?
This was reimagined and executed by Robin at Robin Ludwig Design
Robin tweets as @IntenseWhisper
She also made a nifty new banner for the website. I’ll put it up sometime this weekend.
I’m delighted!
Cover Makeover
I’m so excited! The talented @IntenseWhisper is buffing up the cover for Space Junque.
I’ve never liked the fonts, and I’ve been frustrated with it being too dark unless I hold my computer screen at a certain angle. Let’s hope Robin solves those problems.
For a look at some magic she’s performed, see what she did with Zoe Winters’ covers. They were already great, but Robin took them to the next level. Very nice.

Get Chapter One free at Smashwords now!
Chapter Two is also free at Smashwords now!
It’s all there now (edit 9/3/10). Kindle link coming soon.
It’s getting close…very close! I’m promising an early September publication date for Space Junque.
But I’m secretly coveting something sooner…
